After a project has been awarded to Porter Steel, one of our experienced project managers sees the job through from detailing to fabrication to erection or installation. The project manager serves as a liaison between the customer, our vendors, and the various departments at Porter Steel, ensuring every aspect of the job is executed to perfection. The coordination and communication of our project managers are essential in building the long-term customer relationships that have kept us in business for 40 years.
Detailing is the most critical aspect of any job because its proper execution is the foundation of a successful project. Using advanced detailing software, our trained Tekla and SDS/2 detailers interpret contract drawings and convert them into shop drawings for our fabricators and erectors. Once approved or revised by our customers, the drawings are “scrubbed” and sent out for fabrication, allowing our fabricators and project managers to make each weld and connection with confidence.
Our fabrication shop utilizes a variety of heavy-duty equipment, such as beamlines and overhead booms, and talented team members, such as welders, fitters, and saw men, to transform raw steel into the products needed for the project. Our structural steel division handles all heavy structural work (columns, beams, base plates, etc.) while our miscellaneous metals division handles lighter projects (railing, ornamental, etc.). Whatever your project may be, we have the equipment and team to execute it with safety, accuracy, and speed.
While some of our work is new construction, many of our projects are renovations. Over the past 40 years, we have erected restaurants, churches, and businesses in addition to providing structural steel support for renovations of medical office buildings, converted business spaces, and storefronts. We are also one of Atlanta’s leading rail and stair installers, which includes industrial rail and residential ornamental as well as architectural stainless and glass rail.
Structural steel is the traditional foundation of our business. Likewise, it is also the literal steel that supports buildings, from columns and beams to bracing and decking.
Many of our customers know us for our work in miscellaneous metals, which encompasses everything from stairs and handrails to canopies and partition supports.
For years, everything we built was covered up with brick and drywall. Modern design now often leaves steel exposed to add character and flair.
Some projects are so complex that they don’t fit entirely into a specific division or specialty. Many companies pass on these opportunities, but we take them on with excitement.
